Tent and Van Camping Essentials

Sleeping Bag Recommendations

Many people purchase mummy bags. I find them a little too confining unless I use unzipped. It is wise to buy one rated to zero degrees. Sleeping bag technology is improved from the days when I was buying them. Fibers are much lighter and warmer, bringing bags into the very affordable range.  I suggest the following:

Coleman Big Basin Large Extreme-Weather Hybrid Sleeping Bag

Mylar Blanket

Mylar is a super material that keeps you warm and toasty. It is also great to have in your survival/first aid kit. I use it right now under my mattress in the van. However, when camping during nights near or below freezing, I put one on top of my sleeping blankets. My dog doesn’t like to sound of crunchy Mylar, but he loves the heat.  Mylar blankets are super cheap:

Pots and Pan Set

I always prefer stainless steel.

12 volt Beverage Warmer

Do not go on a road trip without this little guy. It is awesome for heating coffee, plain water, soups, and so on.

Storage

Duffle Bags

I keep lots of things in duffles. Essential for all gear when tent camping, great for clothes and stuff when van camping
