Personal Locator Beacon Set Up

My personal locator beacon (PLB) arrived and is ready to use. Couldn’t be easier to set up. It comes activated with batteries that expire in 2019 and has a test button. The only other action required is to register the device and your name at NOAA. Their registration website comes with the PLB literature.

Should I find myself in a dire situation out in the boonies, I simply flip-up the flat metal antenna and press the on button located under the antenna. Two signals go out (a ping and GPS locator) and a strobe light flashes. Done!

I can see from my research that I need to keep it on me while camping. I am thinking of a fanny pack with the PLB and my stun gun.

I also need a rapid ditch bag with the PLB and emergency/first aid supplies (for inflatable boat).

I am not especially worried but I am accident prone and clumsy, and during most of my summer trip I will be out of cell phone service areas.

Now, on to other planning. Half Moon is not ready until late next week, so I postponed-my Easter break a week. When I finally get out I will do the redecorate and get some photos of the woman cave project!

I am also excited because I learned to spell sabbatical without using spell check!
