Popup Camper Mattress- Ouch

One thing I learned this past year: campers are not well made anymore. Parts bend, break, fall off, and malfunction. I have new admiration for people who buy vintage campers and upgrade them.

One especially funky item is my popup camper mattress. They are thin and cheap. In my case, the mattress rests on a piece of plywood so the discomfort is double yuck. My hip bones seem to push through the mattress and rub on the plywood. This would have been a real problem sleeping on it every night for six weeks.

Since this sleep number RV mattress is $1700, I needed another fix.

RV Bed–only $1700

The solution? A memory foam mattress topper. I previously bought one for my regular bed (getting older I seem to need a softer sleeping surface). I bought one at Walmart for my home bed. Perfect. Later, I bought one for the camper, through Amazon. I found out after the 30-day return period that it is a bit squishy.

Still, it is a great improvement. Since I cannot close up my popup with the mattress topper in place, I roll it up and store near the folded dinette area.

I used to hear that boats are a money hole. I am beginning to realize that a camper is too! Hopefully once I increase the general comfort and finish the redecorating project I can just enjoy.

More cushion covers finished. The brown cushion on top shows the original fabric, now hidden under delicate pink stripes. Gives a light, airy, and vintage vibe.
