I have changed my sabbatical camping trip route many times, but I think this is it! If you would like to see where I am headed on July 14, please click on route. The whole trip is about 2,000 miles. I bought a Kindle book called Montana’s Birding Trails, and have used that to plan the entire route. I start on the eastern side of the map, from Wheatland, and go up to the Rapid City, SD area, then up to Williston, ND, then across the northernmost part of MT. I will pass through an amazing number of premiere birding areas and Important Bird Areas (IBAs). I will camp in undeveloped areas near to the bird hot spots. Very excited. I will then cross the divide and stay in cool, moist forests, with a whole new roster of birds. After I cross the Tetons back into Wyoming, my last major stop will be the Wind River Mountains, east of Pinedale.
I will take 5 weeks to travel around the circle, returning on Aug 18 to sell my book at the county fair in Douglas, WY.I have one more week following that and will probably camp at a nearby state park for the final week. At least that is the plan for today. I leave in exactly 1 month. Mentally I am READY but do have some work projects to finish off.
