Usually I take “sponge” baths when camping. This is easy with a sink and stove to heat hot water in the popup. However, during my upcoming extended trip I will have to find a shower now and then (campgrounds or elsewhere)
The problems with these showers:
- I need a bath mat and flip-flops since I don’t want to walk on the floors
- When I wrap my stuff up in a towel I usually leave a trail of stuff behind me. I walk looking up at birds most of the time and pay no attention to what is dropping out of the towel. Usually, some kid comes running up to me waving my old lady underwear.
- I forget to stash quarters for showers
- When using a regular tote bag, everything is wet and yucky by the time I return to camp.
My newest solution to all these problems? A super easy, DIY camp shower bag made from an old bath sheet/towel, with room for quarters, bath mat, flip-flops, towel and change of clothes. The toweling that is the bag absorbs the wetness while walking back. If it gets yucky after a few trips, I can wash it out.
Ta da!
I positioned the flip-flop to show you the grand size of my bag made from a towel
General steps
Cut out front and back of bag, avoiding frayed spots
Cut pocket for front of bag, sew in place using zig-zag stitch on raw edges
Cut straps, side panels
Sew them together in one continuous loop
Sew side/strap piece to front, on three sides. Repeat with back piece. Fold straps and stitch together to add durability
The key to such an easy project is to measure and cut pieces carefully.
Finished, hard to see front pocket
One more project marked DONE on my checklist.
