At night, I snuggled into my blankets with my transistor radio. The lighted dial provided a soothing glow under the covers. I was supposed to be sleeping, but how could I when the new Beatles songs were playing over and over?
I learned today that the transistor radio was also born in 1954 and is celebrating it’s 60th birthday. I did not have this first model, the Regency, which cost a whopping $49.95 back then.
Three years later Sony came out with an affordable model and it became a “must have” as the early rock-n-roll legends became famous. That nice transistor radio fit perfectly in a Christmas stocking. Here is a later Sony
