I will avoid spoilers here. My goal is to simply effervesce and jabber about “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The storyline is perfect, the new young stars are great, the old stars are fabulous, the droids/robots are cute as ever. The producers did not go too high-tech, which makes the settings (like the 1st Order “city”) seem so familiar. They introduced the old characters into the story at perfect moments, in understated ways and they recycled just enough classic lines. The Millennium Falcon returns as a hooptie. The new bad guy in the black helmet has a clever family tree.
The female characters! Thank goodness for Elsa in Disney’s movie “Frozen”. Disney now owns Lucas Films (original Star Wars producer) and created a futuristic Elsa (Rey) and other strong females. A familiar female is now a General in the Resistance. The new wise sage (always my favorite character) is female! Fortunately, they do not sing “Let it Go” or any other theme songs.
Love love love” Star Wars: The Force Awakens” I did not love the acting in the prequel trilogy (Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith), but I do love everything about “Star Wars 7”.
Trivia about “Star Wars 7”
- Harrison Ford earned nearly $20 million
- Carrie Fischer earned a few million
- The new young leads earned about $600,000 each, but will surely earn more from Star Wars 8 (Spring 2017)
- George Lucas acted as Creative Consultant during the initial phases of the project
May the Force be With You!
Hi Jane:
I have never seen a Star Wars movie ~ your blog is encouraging me to take the plunge!!!
My son, a colonel in the Air Force, has just received the assignment to be commander of the 91st missile wing in Minot AFB. Hope to be heading that way this coming year – real life Star Wars, right?
On my 2016 bucket list – start a blog someway somehow…….
Blessings to you this forthcoming year,
Joan
I think that the Star Wars movies (4,5,6,7) are some of the most religious movies ever. If you like 7, you should start with 4, which was actually the first movie made. 1,2,3 go back in time and have a completely different cast.
When you are in Minot, I will drive up and we can do tea!!
By the way, my son and his new wife are moving to Spokane, WA!!! I think you are somewhere up there???
Jane:
That is crazy – Spokane is 45 minutes from me here in Coeur d’Alene and Minot is ?? miles from you? I moved here from Texas and am just beginning to join and socialize….I love North Idaho and my daughter/family here, yet miss my Texas family and friends all with the same emotions.
Oh my gosh!! I will be in Spokane area to help them unpack, 1st week in April. Most likely driving out there–on I 94 then I 90!! One of my son’s best friends is moving to Coeur d’Alene. Minot is about 3 hours from here, nothing in such a large state. Bismark is about half way.
Haven’t seen Star Wars (the new one) yet, but you have nudged me to do so! On the list for 2016. Thanks.
