I am from Ohio, the Buckeye State. It’s not like you see Buckeyes everywhere. If you really try, you can find chocolate/peanut butter buckeyes in the store. Never real buckeyes. Now I am hanging out in Washington, which has one of the best nicknames ever: the Evergreen State.
State nicknames are fun. Never know when a trivia-type game will ask just that question. Do you know the nickname of Utah, Wisconson, or Pennsylvania? I thought not. Me either. So, to improve our chances at winning a game and looking brilliant, I took a break from job hunting this morning and looked up more state names. It’s an interesting way to pass time and learn something important. : )
I won’t bore you with all fifty state nicknames, but here are some of my faves/least faves
Most Dramatic : Arizona, The Grand Canyon State
Totally true names:
California, The Golden State (gold rush plus golden hills in the fall)
Florida: The Sunshine State
Kansas, the Sunflower state
Least descriptive: Colorado: Centennial State
Most confusing: Maryland: Old Line State
Most poetic: MN: North Star State
Most underwhelming: Wisconsin, the Badger State
Most sassy: Missouri, Show Me State
Somewhat not true:
NM: Land of Enchantment
Utah: Beehive State
WY: The Equality State
So there you have it! If you care to learn these nicknames for yourself and create your own rankings hit up this link.
In the meantime, some photos from the aptly named Evergreen State:
Blue Moon is temporarily stored nearby. Using solar panel to keep battery charged. I just laid it on the ground and the battery is holding at 3/4 charged. Woo hoo!!!
Proud owner of 2 propane tanks!! Notice omnipresent evergreens in the background.
