Zippy Red Car

Flying Cloud is due for an oil change, tire rotation, brake check, and general check-up. Also, the Check Engine light came on, which is scary.

I check out Yelp online to find the highest rated automotive service place in CdA and make an appointment with Silver Lake Automotive. When I arrive, I ask them to check out everything while the van is up on the lift. Yep, it needs brakes, rear differential service, and a serpentine belt. They also tell me that the check engine light has codes that give them an indication of the problem. Flying Cloud’s code refers to a fuel/emission problem, which is probably electrical. Makes sense to me, wires have been hanging down in the back of the van for several years. When I take things in or out from the back doors, I often snag the droopy wires. Gee they go to something???

kiaI authorize all the work, but it will take more than 1 afternoon. I ask about a loaner and they set me up with Thrifty Rental. They pick me up in a snazzy red sports car. I joke on the way back, “ha-ha, wish this was my rental car”. The young man informs me it IS my rental car.

“What? Really? No, I need your cheapest rental, an economy model”

He smiles and tells me this car IS an economy model. I ask him what it is—wait for it—-wait for it—-wait for it—a KIA. Yes, KIA’s are economy. But, this is one seriously hot car, at least to my old lady eyes. Wowsers. I will drive around for 24 hours in this honey. Woo whoooo. I imagine hot guys staring at my car, which they do, at least until I get close enough for them to see my gray hair. I don’t know what their problem is: gray hair and a red car match perfectly.

So, now I am back at Silverlake, waiting for them to tally up the bill. I am certain that will change my chipper mood, but driving a red-hot sports car for 24 hours makes it all okay. The great service and good coffee also help my mood!
