The nice people that I work with obtained permission for me to pull the camper into a huge, new, metal building on site. One of the garage doors is tall enough for the 10’6″ camper to enter! Electricity and water! Tango and I will stay in there with the camper.
I know this sounds scary–not leaving–but I spoke with locals today (even one who lives in an RV), and they said we are far enough inland. We don’t have storm surges, and winds most likely won’t be Hurricane strength in this area. They said we will have steady rain and wind, but inside that tough building, the camper will be protected. If the Hurricane makes landfall near St. Augustine and/or I freak out for some reason, I can head to a nearby shelter at the high school, leaving the camper snug in the metal building.
The area where I am is not in an evacuation zone. Still, with electricity, I can watch radar as Matthew gets closer.
The current plan is to take the camper down to the building (in the main staging area for OSBS) Thursday AM. Will update on Facebook (Jane’s Journals).
