Quilting Projects

I have sewed all my life, but only dabbled in quilting. I decided last spring to commit to the quilting hobby. I set up my camper with that in mind before I started off from Idaho to Florida. I can work while in one place for awhile and while traveling. Perfect set up.

So, what have I been sewing? I am hand quilting a lap-sized piece to give as a Christmas gift, so I won’t show a picture here! I pieced it on the machine, but I don’t really have the room to set up for machine quilting. Because of that (hand-quilting takes a long time), I decided not to sew up large projects. Instead, I have experimented with wall hangings, pillows, and dog-sized quilts. I cannot imagine any other dog has more quilts than Tango.

I have worked on finding my “style”. I have always known that I don’t want to quilt with tiny pieces and complicated patterns used in most traditional designs. I am much more free-form in spirit, and don’t like using patterns. I also love modern designs. I enjoy applique. So, here are a few things I have played with, no patterns involved. Fall has been my inspiration, maybe because I am missing all the colors this year down here in FL.

Small wonky squares. I have more of them, this first piece was experimental. I put this on my bed after I get up so that Tango can lay up there and not get my bed all doggy.

Fall wall-hanging or table topper. I love this little piece.

I am also playing with some modern/geometrical things–just experimenting for now to find what moves me to create.
