My Samsung Chromebook is perfect for my needs. Only a few things are different from a regular computer, such as saving images. The Office-like programs are slightly different, but I have already been using them and Chrome. I had figured out most of the differences. If you want to get away from expensive, heavy, and complicated computers and switch to a Chromebook, I have a suggestion. First, make Chrome your Browser. Then, learn about Google Drive and the basic programs. Once you have some experience with the Google universe, the switch is easy. I got lucky lucky lucky. Regular computers are not in my budget anymore.
So, yesterday I went kayaking. The park launch was fine, but I discovered a launch point across the street that takes me into a nice inlet, which in turn follows the north edge of the island. Before that I rode my bicycle on the bike path. After all of those things, Tango and I took an evening walk on the beach. In between all those things, I ate fish from the local market. I am in love with Dauphin Island. This morning, when the office opened at 8 AM, I strolled in and asked if they could extend me another month. It took time to wiggle things around because in early Feb there is a Mardi Gras parade right in front of the RV park. Voila. They did it, and I will sit right in my current spot. My first Mardi Gras. Apparently much of the south celebrates with their own parades and shenanigans.
I will finish cleaning out the camper and van today then get down to some sewing and writing projects. For exercise I will kayak (according to the tides), cycle, and walk Tango. For fun, I will take the ferry over to Fort Morgan (with just my bike). I can get most of my food at the Dollar General store about 10 miles away on the mainland. I won’t be able to get yogurt, one of my staples, unless I drive about 40 miles, However, I have a yogurt maker that I bought for this very reason.
I like the idea of being controlled in my daily life by nothing but the tides and Tango’s need for regular walks. I like being able to say hmmmmm, I will stay here awhile! Still, I feel a bit guilty being so content here. I will reschedule my Habitat for Humanity volunteer work, but they have ongoing needs so that will work out. I may not go to the Washington, DC march. I have an Amtrak ticket but they emailed me that I have been switched to an Amtrak bus for much of the trip. I am disappointed. I love the train, but taking a bus to DC in the middle of the winter–yuck. Is this security-related? Anyway, I am thinking about going in early Feb (if I don’t have to take the bus) and will visit some of the Smithsonian Museums. But, that detail is open-ended.
Feeling blessed, happy, and healthy as we approach the new year. The jubilee continues.
OK, did you know that it’s a Southern tradition that women must take off their shirts and bras to wave at the floats passing by during Mardi Gras parades? Do take a selfie and post it for all of your former parishioners to enjoy!
By the way, your Sunday (Christmas) message was really good.
Maybe I will pass on that!
