Washington State is famous for its apples. The state produces 2.5 million tons, which is 6 out of every 10 apples grown in the US. From bestapples.com:
“For generations, families in the United States and from around the globe have been able to point to the State of Washington as being THE source for the world’s finest apples. It’s no wonder why. Washington grows more apples than any other U.S. state. With its nutrient-rich soil, arid climate, plentiful water and advanced growing practices, Washington’s lush apple orchards have been lovingly tended by multiple generations of family farms. This produces top quality fruit that continues its legacy of being prized the world ‘round.”
My travel luck brought me unwittingly into an apple region during the harvest. I thought I might be too late, but I have since learned that the apple harvest continues until early November. I gave away all my canning supplies and an RV freezer is too unpredictable to stash much in there. I do have my dehydrator with me, though. Happy day.
For now, however, I sit contentedly in my RV as the rain pours. In some parts of Washington, this is the first rainy week since June. I am somewhat sheltered and quite cozy under my huge tree. My new Amazon Echo plays classical music from Amazon Music and the coffee is steaming hot and perfect. I have full utilities and access to a laundry room and common area. The camper is orderly, and I have some specific writing projects. Tonight, a hot shower and then cuddling up in the heavy, white terry cloth robe mom gave me! It is so easy to find a mighty sense of comfort in my small RV. After 6 weeks traveling, a perfect respite.
This sounds so idyllic. . .
I canned some peaches last month, but I haven’t been out to the orchards for apples yet this year. Have a lovely, cozy, apple-filled day.
Thanks for your comments and well wishes. Peaches! Yum.
