This week was so different from week one. Perfect in its own way! The dominant themes: Grandbaby, rain.
Best moments: Being with my grandbaby Silas and his super parents, Kerry and Meghan. He is such a sweet, serious little guy. Loved taking care of him while mom and dad worked and packed for a big trip to Denver. Nothing will ever be the same after being with him again.
Best Entertainment: Watching a pair of ducks zooming up and down the river this morning, the male in earnest pursuit of the female and the female being a big tease or whatever ducks do.
Best Tango moments: I talk to Tango in the same mama tones I used with my son when he was young. Now I talk to my grandson in the same tones as I used with Tango and Kerry. When I am holding Silas or playing with him on the floor and I do grandma talk, Tango comes running over to me. He seems to say, Here I am, your good little boy, sweetums” He is not so sure about the grandbaby and what he means for him. It was fun to watch. He was good to the baby, of course, but extremely jealous when I use that voice
Near disaster: After an initially sunny day in Spokane, it rained for the next two days. My tent did not leak but some water did seep in through the bottom, despite or maybe because of the tarp underneath. Anyway, I was never wet while sleeping because of the pad and awesome sleeping bag. When I started to pull things out I saw that water seeped in at two spots. The pad, tarp, sleeping bag, and blankets are now airing out and I will probably put the bags/blankets in a dryer later. I turned the tent on its side to dry out the underneath. No big deal, but I am glad it happened. I will put a tarp down on the outside and inside of either tent now in rainy Alaska. I also found a waterproof spray for the floor of both tents.
Best gadget this week: New heavy-duty solar phone charger. It does not seem to charge up via solar charger very fast but, when I drive, I charge it up through the 12-volt outlet in the car. At night in the tent, the phone inevitably goes dead, so then I hook it up to the auxiliary solar charger.
Other best gadget: headlamp. Perfect when I get back to the campsite late at night after being with grandbaby. I put it on inside the car and can see my way around and into the tent.
Best Sleep: No problem sleeping after a day with the baby. Tango immediately knocks out in his bed, which is also inside the tent, and I don’t even listen to an audiobook before sleep.
Best Rocky Mountain Moments: For two days I drove through the Northern Rockies (northern Idaho, Montana), which is not yet doing anything spring-like. The mountains were snow-covered, and on the high, Interstate passes we saw a touch of snow falling. No matter! I love the Rockies at any time of year.
Best new routine: Breakfast in-town on rainy mornings. I am in another rainy spell until tomorrow, and when I wake up hungry on those mornings I wait until I get into town and have something hot.
Your Blogs are fun and interesting. You are a super traveler! Will this adventure become a book?
After a gigantic downsizing my SF sister is coming for a visit starting Wednesday. She is bringing some Williamsburg fabric she bought just a few years ago and needs to use my sewing machine. We will hope for a bit of sun so we can do some walking. Valpo is having the coldest spring in over twenty years. Today we had snow showers the entire day.
Happy travelling! mae ann
Yes, it seems to be a cold late spring everywhere, especially up here. Have fun with your sister and thanks for reading my blog. I live to travel. Maybe a book…not sure. Also working on a couple of articles on west issues.
