I am experiencing a run of sunny, pleasant days. “Nighttime” is around freezing but the days and evenings are full of sun and blue skies. I am feeling rejuvenated. This got me wondering, just how much of this trip has been rainy? Of the top of my head, I would say, most of it. However, I tend to exaggerate things so I decided to actually count the rainy and sunny days thus far. Here is the breakdown:
April 1-mid April
- 10 days sun (NM, AZ, Lake Powell)
- 5 days rain/cloudy skies (UT, ID, MT)
Mid-April- May 1
- 12 days rain/cloudy skies (WA)
- 2 days sun (WA)
May 1 – June 1
- 5 days sun (Wrangell, AK)
- 9 days rain/cloudy skies (Wrangell, AK)
May 15-May 27
- 7 days sun (Petersberg, AK)
- 7 days rain (Juneau, AK)
- 2 days mostly sunny (travel to Fairbanks and Denali)
May 28 – June 2
- 4 days sunny, a few sprinkles (Denali National Park)
Totals after 60 days?
Sunshine = 30 days, Rainy = 30 days
Had I not counted, I would never have believed the trip is 50/50 rain and sunshine. It feels like more rainy days. That is why positive thinking is so important. However, I truly hope the amount of sunny days begins to exceed the rainy ones. The short-term forecast looks promising and the sunny days could swing into the lead! But, who is counting!!
Note, since writing this, I have had two glorious sunny days in the 60s and clear skies, making the trip officially more sunny than rainy! The weather is perfect at the moment and perfect pushes the memories of bad weather further back in my memories.
