Since Christmas, the air and water temps have been too cold for kayaking. I miss being on the water, but that will change starting March 1.
John Wayne Marina sits right on Sequim Bay, just outside of town. When I was out exploring a few months ago, I discovered an RV Park right across the street. Today, a beautiful, bright, and warm day, was the perfect time to head over there again to check it out and find out if they have any openings.
Before I continue, I have to tell you that NONE of the RV parks on the North Peninsula allow monthly visitors for the 5 months of May-September. With Olympic National Park in our backyard and the coastline in our front yard, this area fills up with tourists, and the park owners charge high nightly rates. I will have to move, even where I am now, and I have been planning on that since I got here. The John Wayne Marina RV Park is the same, but I did find out they have a spot open for March and April of this year, which are warm spring months here – perfect for kayaking. Soooo, I reserved that one spot for those 2 months and will then be right across from the water.
I am so excited to have excellent water access, views, and also access to the Olympic Discovery Trail, which passes along the RV park boundary. It is not as upscale as the park where I am now (the photos at the website don’t really show the actual RV sites), but the location is the best ever. Ever! I liked it so much, I went ahead and reserved a spot for next fall and winter, after they allow monthly renters to come back in October. I don’t know if will spend the entire winter here again, but at least I have the option now. It has worked out well for this year, but I am finding some things I might want to do late next winter, like a bluegrass festival in AZ. I am definitely coming back to my new home base, though.
These photos from the Internet show the great location and the short distance I will be from the water for March and April!
